Don't Go It Alone

Sometimes, well, more often than not, I just want to be left alone. My mother calls it, "Peace, quiet and tranquility." She's the same way. A lot of us are that way, actually. Some of us get energized when we're left alone. Some of us are opposite, though and would much rather be with people all the time. What's the saying, "Too much of a good thing is bad..."
Genesis 2:18 says, "And the Lord God said, "It is not good that mankind should be alone; I will make an ezer (I like this Hebrew word so much better than "helpmete.") for him." This verse is so often used in marriage ceremonies or in sermons geared towards marriage that it gets left out of the "we need people in our lives" topic, don't you think?
I mean, yes, God's talking about the one man Adam and is going to make an "ezer" (military ally) for him, but the word "Adam" means "mankind"... that's each of us. God knew us before the creation of the world, right? He called us by name. He knew the things that would take place in our lives, good, bad, and ugly.
He didn't cause them. Sin and the brokenness of this world caused all the crap in our lives. God knew way back then what us, "mankind" would face in life. And He said, it's not good for us to be alone. It's not good for us to fight our battles alone. It's not good for us to go through this broken world alone. And He created "ezer" (helpmete, military ally).
There is someone we both know that needs us in their life right now. They may FEEL like being alone. We may even FEEL like being alone. But I promise, it's not the way God intended for us to live. Be alone for a little while if you need to, but then get back in with the people God placed into your life.
Proverbs 18:24 says, "One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."
Are we that "ezer," that military ally? Are we that friend? Are we the friend who sticks closer than a brother? Are we the one that is there to encourage and lift up the people in our lives who need us? Who needs you today? Who needs a phone call or a text asking how they're doing? Who in your life needs you to battle for them in prayer? Who in your life needs for you to just be there and listen?
Being alone is good... but don't let it be a habit. Two things have happened during this past year of quarantine for everyone. We learned that we either really like being quarantined and alone or we don't like being quarantined and alone.
Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago." God planned for you before the creation of the world. He planned for you to do good things.
Don't do life alone and don't let others go it alone, either. There is someone who needs you to not let go of them.
My prayer:
Lord, I pray that we would be the people you created us to be. That we would walk in all the good things that you planned for each of us long ago. I pray for those who are hurting in any way, that they would experience your healing touch and power and know without any doubt that you are the God who sees them, knows them, and loves them more than words can even describe. Thank you so much for your grace, for your mercy, and for your love.
You are such a good, good God, father, creator, provider, and ....
Thank you.
